ID THEFT ALERT
Many experts in ID theft now say the number one way to protect your self against ID theft felons is to use a post office box for all your mail and get zero mail delivered to your home address. When ID thieves know your name, and can match that to your address its much easier to get they other ID info they need to steal your money using credit reports or other easily available government data bases. Having a POB in the next town over, near where you shop weekly creates a firewall of confusion for ID theft and usually sends the bad guys on to an easier target. POB's cost $50-100 a year, just a few hundredths of a percent of the financial assets ID thieves can steal if they get enough of your data. Everyone financial assets in banks or investment accounts esp. those with over 50k is a potential target of ID thieves and should consider using a pob for ALL their mail. Using a pob address all financial statements and for all tax returns keeps you name and address out of millions of data bases, and somewhat protected from illegal government misuse of your data.
email scams: Phishing/spoofing: These are forged e-mails purporting to be from a company you know and trust attempting to get you to reveal sensitive information like user IDs, passwords, account numbers or other sensitive data. Criminals could use this data to access your accounts, financial information and/or your identity. Forged e-mails can also ask you to supply, confirm, or update personal information by clicking on an email link that will connect you to a webpage or login that appears to belong to the company mentioned in the e-mail. Often the site looks just like the company's site. The goal of the ID criminals is to get you to enter your personal data so they can steal your information.
The Hydrogen Fuel cell ecnomy
For about 2 years now I have been watching the emerging hydrogen fuel cell sector looking for a good way to play the coming "hydrogen economy".
In a nutshell fuel Hydrogen and oxygen are separated by a thin barrier of pladuim and other advanced materials (many made under Dupont patents). The barrier has microscopic pathways that allow hydrogen molecules to pass thru it as they are drawn thru to the oxygen. As the pass thru occurs the hydrogen molecules are stripped of their electrons creating heat and an electrical current. Thus, the result of the process is heat, electricity and water as the stripped hydrogen mates with 2 parts oxygen and common H2O, a form of distilled water is the only non-polluting emission. Here is a link to a short minute or two video from PBS that is a GREAT visual explination if how Fuel cells work: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8474118/
As future tech as fuel cells sound they have been around for decades. NASA has used hydrogen fuel cell batteries since the 70's moon shot program where cost was not a barrier. The only questions that remain is getting fuel cell costs down via mass production and finding cost effective ways to create, transport and store Hydrogen for commercial use. Hydrogen is the most common element on earth, that may not be to big a hurdle.
The fuel cell revolution may change the world as we know it in the same way the Internet did. Commercial fuel cell applications ARE NOT 5 to 10 years away, they are being field tested now. Hotels powered by fuel cells, hydrogen motor cycles and test cars, UPS trucks and US Army trucks are all in test use now.
The hydrogen boom will save trillions in oil and most likely produce gains in nearly all non-oil dependent firms that will dwarf any past bull market we have seen. Fuel cell beneficiaries are everywhere, basically all energy users. At this moment the Hydrogen pure play stocks are where the Internet stocks were in 1993, in late stage start-up.
The question is who among the Hydrogen pure plays will emerge as the Google or Ebay of Hydrogen. In 3 years I have spent hundreds of hours watching this sector without investing a penny or making even 1 recommendation as many hydrogen stocks were in the early start up stage.
Finally, there is the first Hydrogen pure play exchange traded fund I am investing in and recommending, but be assured it wont be the last its symbol is PBW. Its called Power shares clean power portfolio and it holds a diversified basket of fuel cell stocks.
Some stocks in this sector, just like the 1990's dot.com will move 100 fold while the rest will be taken over by bigger fish (read: General electric, GM, etc.) or go bankrupt. I think the trick to separating the wheat from the chaff in Hydrogen stocks is going to be the same thing that has worked for me for 25 years: fundamental value over hype. Going forward my other stock picks outside hydrogen pure plays will be screened to answer a simple question: Will this company be a beneficiary surfing the coming Hydrogen wave or be crushed by it ( oil refiners are the perfect example of a sector likely to be crushed ).
To be fair the Hydrogen economy is not likely to be later called a wave, its more likely at this moment in 2020 we will look back on it as the economic tsunami that changed the world.
The comming Hydrogen ecnomy is in the news everyday, even President Bush has spoken of the comming Hydrogen ecnomy.
